![Paradigm Shift, 28x44” 2022 <br>oil on canvas<br><br>As mentioned by wildlife biologist, Alex Jordan, in TBA-21 Academy Radio’s “Ocean Wants”, “I’m contributing in some way to a paradigm shift [...] I’m trying to understand the experience of animals, as a function of what they are experiencing, not through the lens of our (human) experience. [...] It’s not ok if the value of the knowledge of animals is relative to how similar it is to a human.”<br>Alex Jordan’s acclaimed Mirror Test has proven that certain fish species have self awareness. But what does self awareness in an animal mean or look like? As Jordan states, “When I challenge this concept that intelligence or cognition exists [in an animal], I say that the scale is not the same scale.
