Holly Overton is a painter and music artist in Brooklyn, NY. She performs with her band, incorporating set and lighting design, costume, choreography and props. Her influences are Diana Ross, Kate Bush and Lucinda Williams. She has released two solo EP's and a solo concept album, and tours nationally. She recently received her MFA in oil painting at New York Studio School.

Holly plays electric guitar, synthesizer and drum machine. She is classically trained in piano. She sings while making large abstract paintings, letting her storm pass through the canvas, and asks that her paintings be hung in the bedroom. Her paintings are the performance of painting; The stage is set in anticipation. She breaks illusions of space with hand prints, kisses, glitter, scrapes and words. She ravishes the surface.

Holly’s musical output was a staple in the Brooklyn DIY 2000teens at venues like Death by Audio and Silent Barn with her former band, Juniper Rising, formed with Diana Potakh. They released two EP's and an LP on Burger Records (CA) and Happenin' Records (AL). Members included Kevin Faulkner (The Men) and Kate Rogers (Bad Bloom). She collaborated with Mark Perro (The Men) on three disco rock albums under the name MPHO. Her first acoustic folk pop band Feather and Folly was with Júlía Hermansdóttir (OYAMA).

She has exhibited at The Old Bailey Gallery (AL), Safehouse 1 (London), Bowery Gallery (NY), Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (NY), Visionary Projects (NY), PARADICE PALASE (NY), Calico Gallery (NY), Millennium Film Workshop (NY), Schema Projects (NY), Dia Chelsea (NY), Union Docs (NY), Bushel Collective (NY), Blah Blah Gallery (PA), Museum of Modern Art (NY), and was curated by Joshua Citarella for Do Not Research at Lower Cavity (MA). She was a recipient of the LCU Fund of Women’s Education in 2024-25. She teaches workshops and classes at various cultural institutions including Millennium Film Workshop (NY) and Calvino Studio (NC). She was a teaching artist and artist-in-residence at Mendocino Art Center (CA), and an artist-in-residence at Willow House (TX) and The Old Bailey Gallery (AL).
